Craniosacral therapy is a method of light touch bodywork that connects with the craniosacral system. Using gentle touch, we palpate the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid moving through that system. The craniosacral system consists of the connective tissue, called fascia, in and around the brain and spinal cord. We find areas where the craniosacral rhythm is weak or out of synchronization. We then use the bones as handles to stretch the fascia and release the restriction. In addition, we use light touch to palpate fascia and find areas of restriction. We then use mechanical and energetic manipulation to relieve those areas of restrictions. All of our nerves, including cranial nerves and spinal nerves, pass through the craniosacral system. Therefore, craniosacral therapy has almost limitless possibilities of treating pain and dysfunction.

Most people experience deep relaxation. Some people see dream-like visions in their mind’s eye. Some people feel energy moved and releasing. People experiencing pain often feel that pain alleviate or disappear. People with neuropathy, such as numbness or spasms, often experience alleviation or relief of those symptoms. Some people feel better while they are lying on the table. Some people feel great the next day and for others it takes a few days. It’s impossible to predict the outcome of your first session. After experiencing that session, or maybe within a few days, you can decide when and if you’d like to continue receiving treatment and how often.
